3D Printing a Greener Planet | Greentown Labs x Markforged
If you're a manufacturer who wants to help the planet, you might want to invest in some industrial strength 3D printers.
Just ask Greentown Labs, the largest Climatetech incubator in North America. With offices in Somerville, MA and Houston, TX, they’ve served more than 450+ current and startup alums, all will the same goal in mind: To create more environmentally friendly and sustainable technology and launch it into the world.
One of the ways Greentown supports their startups: Markforged 3D printers. Using Mark Two's and X7 printers, Greentown startups can create lightweight, high strength parts reinforced with composites like Continuous Carbon Fiber. 3D printing not only allows for rapid prototyping of ideas with impressively smooth surface finish, but also requires less wasteful materials than traditional subtractive manufacturing methods.
A current startup at Greentown Labs, Transaera, is working to create a more efficient and sustainable air conditioning units. Using Markforged, tn a single day Transaera can conceptualize a part, draw it up in CAD, hit print, and have it in their hand by the end of the day. As Sr. Director of Labs and Resources, Greg Ralich, says: "these things are like magic."
