While process control systems can often be quite large, you won’t need a massive lab space to teach relevant real-world process control skills. The training system’s two portable consoles feature a wide variety of real industrial components, including a PID controller, operator controls, process meter, flow transmitter, water tanks, piping network with valves, gauges, centrifugal pump, and PLC interface. On June 13, 2025, Amatrol hosted an EV Battery Summit meeting at its headquarters in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in conjunction with MichAuto, the Michigan Manufacturers Association, the Michigan Workforce Training & Education Collaborative, the Smart Automation Certification Alliance (SACA), and ATS Lab Midwest. Each FAME chapter provides “an unparalleled apprenticeship-style training program where participants earn while they learn, gaining top-tier technical expertise by integrating core manufacturing competencies, professional practices, and authentic hands-on experience.” As Davis explains, “our students are all employed from day one, and they’re all enrolled in college from day one as they go through the program. Ultimately, they’re going to earn as Associate Degree as they complete this program.” Gaining relevant hands-on skills is critical for students. According to Davis, when setting up FAME chapters, “we’ve got to have a high-end lab space that’s really going to complement the learning in this program. What I need is the best equipment and I need enough of it to make sure that I have a full cohort of students who can actually learn on that equipment.” That’s where Amatrol comes in. Amatrol’s kickoff event gave dozens of students from area high schools a behind-the-scenes look inside a modern manufacturing facility. Not only did students receive in-depth tours of the manufacturing facilities at Amatrol East and Amatrol West, they were also able to interact with representatives from several local manufacturers to learn more about the types of manufacturing careers available locally. For example, Conner Bartos, a machinist at Cimtech, tells students: “Manufacturing is a great way to become financially independent, because if you go to college, you won’t get a job for at least two to four years. With a trade, you can get a great job directly out of high school.” Launius explains that “for over ten years, One Southern Indiana, in collaboration with the Metro Manufacturing Alliance, has hosted Manufacturing Week to build an opportunity for students and industry to connect throughout the week in some really fun and authentic ways.” He adds that “when we look into the future, we see [manufacturing] as an industry that will continue to serve our region immensely, but a critical piece of that is the workforce and the next generation. It’s really exciting to be here this week ensuring that the students, the schools, the partners, all come together to ensure that we maintain this momentum we have as a region but also capitalize on it.” Perkins agrees, noting that “Amatrol is involved in this, because Amatrol is the global leader in career and technical education and workforce development for advanced manufacturing and many other types of careers. This is very important for our reach in the economy, especially with Indiana being a top U.S. manufacturing state.”

We saw that there was a high demand for HVAC in our area.” HVAC Advisory Board Member Aaron Thomas agrees: “All of us in the HVAC industry are struggling with hiring qualified technicians. There are a lot of people retiring, so we need to get as many young folks into this as possible. There’s a need for this program.” That’s why the Wayne County Schools Career Center Adult Education HVAC program represents a major investment in the future of those interested in pursuing careers in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry. Utilizing Amatrol’s HVAC training systems, learners will gain both the knowledge and hands-on skills they need to succeed on the job. Elliott points out that “[o]ur students are able to transition from what they’re learning in the lab to what they do on the job.” A big reason for that is the ability of Amatrol HVAC training systems to teach advanced troubleshooting skills. Thomas echoes the importance of acquiring troubleshooting skills in their HVAC lab: “It’s a safe place. Having the ability to troubleshoot in here and not working on someone’s system in their house…having the ability to fail is huge.” Instructor Scott Viator appreciates how Amatrol’s exclusive FaultPro system works in the lab: “The machine behind me, the heat pump [training system], is exactly how a heat pump works…and you can put faults in it. HVAC does everything…plumbing, electrical, carpentry. The ceiling and the amount of growth that this facility allows us to have is still untouched. Unfortunately, many areas of the country do not have enough HVACR technicians, leading to uncomfortable wait times for those without air conditioning in the summer or heat in the winter. That’s why industry and educational institutions are working together to increase the supply of qualified HVACR technicians.
