For example, Conner Bartos, a machinist at Cimtech, tells students: “Manufacturing is a great way to become financially independent, because if you go to college, you won’t get a job for at least two to four years. With a trade, you can get a great job directly out of high school.” Launius explains that “for over ten years, One Southern Indiana, in collaboration with the Metro Manufacturing Alliance, has hosted Manufacturing Week to build an opportunity for students and industry to connect throughout the week in some really fun and authentic ways.” He adds that “when we look into the future, we see [manufacturing] as an industry that will continue to serve our region immensely, but a critical piece of that is the workforce and the next generation. There are a lot of people retiring, so we need to get as many young folks into this as possible. There’s a need for this program.” That’s why the Wayne County Schools Career Center Adult Education HVAC program represents a major investment in the future of those interested in pursuing careers in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry.
